Joint Child Rights NGO Submission to the Human Rights Committee on the ICCPR

The National Children’s and Youth Law Centre, KWM Human Rights Law Group, UNICEF and UNSW jointly prepared the Child Rights NGO submission to the UN Human Rights Committee for the List of Issues Prior to Reporting on Australia’s implementation of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR).

The submission highlights areas where Australia is failing to comply with its international obligations under the ICCPR as it relates to children and young people, and provides some questions for the Committee to consider asking the Australian Government before a final UN report is drafted. The submission covered four broad topics founded in articles of the ICCPR, including the Right to Self Determination, the Protection of Children, Non-Discrimination and the Entrenchment of Basic Human Rights.

You can download the submission here.
